Welcome to Rebecca Kaplan for Oakland Mayor
I am running for Mayor of Oakland because Oakland's needs are immediate and I am committed to fixing City Hall. My vision for Oakland is a City that works. I believe Oakland can be a city that creates good jobs for its residents and where citizens believe that government is working for them.
Ten years ago I ran for Oakland City Council’s at-large seat as a twenty-nine-year-old civil rights lawyer burning to serve my city. For the last eight years I have had the tremendous honor of representing all Oaklanders on the Oakland City Council and the AC Transit Board of Directors. I led successful ballot initiatives to expand housing rights, prioritize public safety resources, create cannabis regulations, strengthen local transportation, and increase City revenues without raising taxes on residents. As your Citywide Council Member, I am proud of the work I have to done for all of you, from repealing discriminatory statutes to reducing regulatory barriers facing small businesses. I have aided the expansion of food-makers and secured playing fields for youth and adult sports teams. But there is much more work to do.
It’s going to take strong leadership, a smart plan to build the local economy and create jobs for residents, and a renewed sense of civic pride to complete the work of building Oakland’s renaissance. As your Mayor, I will implement policies and deliver services to bring job opportunities, assure public safety, reform City Hall, and make a more livable community. Please take a look at my website for more information about myself, my record serving Oaklanders, and my platform for transforming City Hall. I hope you will honor me with your vote for Mayor this November 2nd.
